Hot cocoa bombs make the best teacher, neighbor, and coworker gifts, but half the people who get one have no idea what to do with it. Each one has the three steps printed right on it: drop it in a mug, pour in hot milk, and stir. Print them on cardstock, cut them out, punch a hole, and tie them on with a bit of ribbon or twine. What’s Included in the Free Hot Chocolate Bomb Tags
This free printable comes as one PDF file sized for a standard 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper, printed in landscape. Each sheet holds eight tags, so one page covers a whole row of neighbors or a small classroom.
Every tag includes:
- “Hot Cocoa Bomb” at the top in a hand-lettered chalk style, framed by snowflakes
- A red “How to Use” banner so the directions stand out
- Three easy steps: place in a mug, pour 8–10 oz of hot milk, then stir until melted and enjoy
- Holly berries, evergreen sprigs and a little heart along the bottom for a festive Christmas look
- A marked circle at the top of the tag that shows you exactly where to hole punch
The black chalkboard background looks great against white, red or kraft packaging, and the red accents tie right in with classic Christmas colors. Light grey cut lines around each tag make trimming quick and tidy.
These hot chocolate bomb gift tags are free for personal use. Print as many as you need for your family, friends, school or office gifts. Please don’t sell them or use them for commercial use, and share a link to this post rather than the file itself.

Supplies You’ll Need
- White cardstock – 65 lb or 80 lb card stock gives the tags a sturdy feel that won’t flop or tear
- Color printer – any home inkjet works; set it to “best” quality for the richest black
- Paper trimmer or scissors – a trimmer makes straight cuts much faster
- Hole punch – a standard 1/4 inch punch fits the marked circle
- Festive ribbon or baker’s twine – red and white twine looks especially sweet with this design
- Clear treat bags or boxes – to hold the hot chocolate bombs
- Hot cocoa bombs – homemade or store-bought

How to Print and Assemble Your Hot Cocoa Bomb Tags
Putting these together takes about 15 minutes for a full sheet. Here’s how to get the best results.
- Download the PDF file. Use the button at the bottom of this post and save the file to your computer. Opening it in Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) gives the most accurate print size.
- Load your cardstock. Place white cardstock in your printer tray. Check your printer’s manual to see which side faces up.
- Adjust your print settings. Choose landscape orientation, “actual size” or 100% scale, and the highest print quality. Skip “fit to page” so the tags print at their full size.
- Let the ink dry. The black background uses a lot of ink, so give it a few minutes before you handle the sheet to avoid smudges.
- Cut out the tags. Trim along the light grey lines with a paper trimmer or sharp scissors.
- Punch the hole. Line your hole punch up with the white circle printed near the top of the tag.
- Attach to your gift. Thread festive ribbon or twine through the hole and tie it around your bag, box or jar with a neat bow.
Want to add a little note? Flip the tag over and write a quick “Merry Christmas” message or the recipient’s name on the blank back.

Hot Chocolate Bomb Packaging Ideas
The best part about these tags is how well they work with any kind of packaging. Here are a few different options, from quick and simple to an all-out hot cocoa gift basket.
Clear treat bags. The easiest way to package a single bomb. Slip it into a cellophane bag, gather the top and tie it closed with ribbon and your tag. It’s budget friendly and lets the pretty chocolate show through.
Cupcake boxes. Single cupcake boxes with a clear window keep hot chocolate bombs from getting bumped or cracked. Tie the tag around the box with a festive ribbon.
A cute mug. Set a bomb inside a cute mug, wrap the whole thing in cellophane, and hang the tag from the handle. This makes a great gift for coworkers and is easy to put together in bulk.
A hot cocoa kit or gift set. Pair two or three bombs with a mug, a small bag of chocolate chips, peppermint sticks and a little note. It looks like something from a boutique and costs far less.
One tip: keep wrapped hot cocoa bombs in a cool spot away from heaters and sunny windows so the chocolate shells stay glossy until gift day.

Who to Give Hot Cocoa Bombs To
Hot chocolate bombs are one of those holiday gifts almost everyone loves, which makes them perfect when you have a long list to check off. A few ideas:
- Teachers. A wrapped bomb with this tag is a sweet teacher gift that won’t add to the mug collection. Kids can help tie the ribbon, which adds a personal touch.
- Classmates. Middle school kids especially love handing these out. One sheet of tags covers eight friends.
- Neighbors. Drop a few at the doors on your street with a “Merry Christmas” note on the back.
- Coworkers and Secret Santa. Pair a bomb with a cute mug for an easy under-$10 gift.
- Bus drivers, mail carriers and coaches. Quick, inexpensive and always appreciated.
- Party guests. Set out a basket of tagged bombs at your hot cocoa bar as take-home favors.

Hot Cocoa Bomb Tag FAQ
Are these tags editable? No, these aren’t editable templates. The back of each tag is blank, though, so you can handwrite names or a little note.
Can I print them on regular paper? Yes, but white cardstock holds up much better. Thin paper can wrinkle once it’s tied to a bag.
How much milk does a hot cocoa bomb need? The tag recommends 8 to 10 oz of hot milk. Hot milk gives the creamiest results, but hot water works too if the bomb is filled with a hot cocoa mix made for water.
Can I use these for my shop? The tags are for personal use only. Please don’t sell them, print them for sale, or use them for commercial use.
Will the tags fit a mason jar or mug? Yes. Each tag is sized to hang from a ribbon on a jar lid, mug handle, treat bag or gift box.
