Blue Layer:
- Blue Jell-O – Bright color and fruity flavor make this layer pop

- Envelopes of Unflavored Gelatin – Gives this layer its structure
- Cold Water – brings the temperature down so it can turn into the jiggly texture.

- Sweetened Condensed Milk – Adds creamy richness and a white base that sets well
Red Layer:
- Red Jell-O – Juicy and bright, this finishes the trio beautifully
- Boiling Water – Dissolves the mix
- Cold Water – Helps to make the final classic texture
- Vodka – Balances the sweetness with that classic Jell-O shot kick

How to Make Red, White & Blue Fourth of July Jello Shots
Start with the blue layer:
In a mixing bowl, dissolve the blue Jell-O in a cup of boiling water (boil the water on the stove or in the microwave). Stir until the blue Jello mixture is smooth. Add ½ cup vodka and ½ cup of cold water. Pour into plastic shot glasses or glass shot glasses, filling ⅓ full. Place on a cookie sheet for easy transfer and chill for a couple hours until fully set.

Make the middle white layer:
Sprinkle 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in a ½ cup of cold water and let sit for 5 minutes. Add a cup of boiling water and stir until gelatin dissolves. Mix in the sweetened condensed milk and let the white gelatin mixture cool to room temperature. Once the blue layer is set, pour carefully over the top of the blue layer, filling to the next third. Chill again for a couple of hours.

Finish with the red layer:
Dissolve the red Jell-O (like cherry Jell-O or strawberry Jell-O) in a cup of boiling water. Stir in a half cup vodka and a half cup cold water. Once the white layer is firm, add the red mixture to fill the cups. Chill until fully set, this may take a few hours, but we recommend leaving overnight.

Garnish and serve:
Just before serving, top each shot with a dollop of whipped cream or Cool Whip using a frosting tip or piping bag.

Add patriotic sprinkles to the top of the white layer or the whipped cream. Optional: add a maraschino cherry for a show-stopping finish!

How to Make Patriotic Jello Shots Without Alcohol
Want to go non-alcoholic? Use a full cup of cold water instead of vodka in the blue and red layers
Helpful Tips
Use a measuring cup with a spout to pour each layer cleanly
Let each layer fully set before adding the next layer to avoid bleeding
Make these in plastic shot glasses or Jello shot cups for easy cleanup
Chill on a cookie sheet so you can move them in and out of the fridge with ease

Substitutions and Variations
Try different flavors – Swap blue raspberry for berry blue, or use strawberry Jell-O for a twist
Serve in a loaf pan – Layer in a rectangular dish and cut into cubes instead of using individual cups
Add a vodka flavor twist – Try vanilla vodka for a dessert-like layer or coconut rum for tropical vibes
Use glass shot glasses – For a fancy presentation at more upscale events
Top with whipped topping and fruit – A maraschino cherry or a berry on top adds color and contrast
Make it TikTok-worthy – Layer cleanly, pipe your whipped cream neatly, and garnish like a pro

How to Store
Keep the jello shooters in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before serving. Add the garnishes right before.

Common FAQs
You can prep these Fourth of July Jello shots 1–2 days ahead. Keep covered with plastic wrap in the fridge.
Nope. Jell-O doesn’t freeze well. Store them chilled and serve cold for best texture.
Yes! Simply cut the recipe in half or quarter if using a loaf pan or fewer plastic cups.
Let each layer chill fully before pouring the next, and make sure your mixtures have cooled slightly before adding to avoid melting the previous layer.
