Patriotic 4th of July Crinkle Cookies

These festive red, white, and blue cookies will be a hit at your next patriotic party. These are soft, chewy, and so pretty to look at!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 ¾ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Red and blue gel food coloring
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  • Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg yolk.
  • Combine flour and salt, then stir into butter mixture until dough forms.
  • Divide dough in half and tint one portion red and one portion blue.
  • Roll dough into 1-tablespoon balls and coat generously in powdered sugar.
  • Flatten into thick discs and freeze for at least 1 hour until solid.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  • Bake frozen cookies for 12 to 15 minutes until puffed and crackled.
  • Cool completely on the baking sheet before serving.
