Glazed Maple Doughnuts

Fluffy yeast donuts fried until golden and dipped in a glossy maple glaze. These donuts are bakery-worthy but easy enough to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting the kneading surface
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • ½ cup whole milk warm around 110°F
  • 2 tbsp water warm around 110°F
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter softened
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying

Maple Glaze

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp whole milk or heavy cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Topping

  • ½ cup chopped pecans toast for more flavor
  • ½ tsp flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Mix warm milk, warm water, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add butter, eggs, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic, 8 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes with a mixer.
  • Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1 ½ hours.
  • Roll dough to ½ inch thick. Cut into donuts and place on lined sheet. Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes.
  • Heat oil to 350°F. Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  • Whisk glaze ingredients until smooth. Dip warm donuts into glaze and top with pecans and sea salt if desired.

Notes

  • Keep oil at 350°F for best results.
  • Donuts taste best the day they’re made.
  • Glaze while warm for the perfect sticky finish.
